Damon Albarn has written music for a new musical called wonder.land, which will be premiere at Manchester’s Palace Theatre as part of Manchester International Festival. Now, you can watch a trailer for the musical, which runs from June 29 through July 12 before opening in London in November. Check it out below, via The Guardian.
Inspired by the Lewis Carroll novel Alice in Wonderland, the musical is about an unhappy girl who finds escape in a virtual world. Albarn’s words are accompanied by a book and lyrics by Moira Buffini and direction by Rufus Norris, the incoming Director of the National Theatre. Previously, Albarn has composed two operas—Dr Dee: An English Opera and Monkey: Journey to the West, the former of which was also written for Rufus Norris and performed in Manchester.
